Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Systems Lead – UAV & ESC Firmware to lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of flight-critical embedded software for UAVs and Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs). The role requires strong expertise in embedded firmware, real-time systems, motor control algorithms, and safety-critical software development, along with the ability to lead engineering teams and deliver highly reliable UAV systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of flight-critical firmware for UAV systems and ESCs.
- Define system requirements, software architecture, and development processes for reliable and safety-critical embedded systems.
- Develop and optimize real-time firmware for STM32 and other microcontroller platforms.
- Implement advanced algorithms for sensor fusion, motor control (FOC, BLDC), and flight control functionalities.
- Collaborate with hardware teams to ensure seamless integration of software and electronic systems.
- Oversee testing activities including unit testing, integration testing, HIL simulations, and motor test bench validation.
- Drive adoption of defensive programming practices, CI/CD pipelines, and high-reliability software development methodologies.
- Communicate technical concepts and project progress to stakeholders and mentor engineering teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience developing and leading embedded systems for safety-critical applications.
- Strong experience with 16/32-bit microcontrollers, particularly STM32 platforms.
- In-depth knowledge of timers, interrupts, ADC/DAC, bootloaders, memory systems, and communication protocols such as I2C, UART, and SPI.
- Strong understanding of operating systems, real-time systems, and embedded software architecture.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Additional Requirements
- Experience with STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments microcontrollers is preferred.
- Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing (DSP), motor control techniques (FOC, BLDC), and power electronics principles.
- Familiarity with hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
- Experience with STM32 development tools, motor testing methodologies, and ESC validation processes.
- Understanding of UAV flight control systems, PID control, Kalman filtering, and related control algorithms.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, mission-critical environments and lead high-performing engineering teams.
